Obituary of June Letwin
Letwin, June Fern (nee Dryden) of Appin On. Formerly Portage la Prairie, Saskatchewan Passed away on Saturday August 3, 2013 at Four Counties Hospital, Newbury Ont. She was predeceased by husband Bill, parents Emma and Roy Dryden, sister Marian, brother-in law Virgil Pladsen and brother Robert Dryden. June leaves behind her daughters Shele Letwin and Sharlane Letwin and son in law Edouard Azzi all of Toronto ON; son William "Bill" and wife Katherine Letwin of Appin, ON; grandchildren Zoe and Amber Letwin and step-grandchildren, Angela and Ryan Fredrich, Samantha Crewe and Brandon Crewe; sisters Margaret Dryden of Foam Lake, SK and Elinor Samels of Winnipeg, MB along with many nieces and nephews and their families. June was born June 1, 1930 at home in Tuffnell, SK. In her growing up years she was involved in the United Church. June moved to Portage la Prairie in 1950 and took nursing, graduating as a LPN and began her career in the Brandon Mental Institution. She was on the committee of six to get Psych Nurses registered in Manitoba and returned to Portage to work with Dr. Atkinson to complete this task of registration. June was a Psych Nurse for ten years. In 1960 she married Andrew William "Bill" Letwin. They built and operated the Sunset Motel in Portage and began their family of three children. Later they moved to Saskatoon, SK and opened a jewelry store. June took an accounting course and attended seminars. June and her family moved to Calgary in 1973 and operated two jewelry stores. She wrote the test to acquire her degree is gemology at Gemological Institute of America and became a member of the American Gem Society to become a registered jeweler. On January 20, 1982, her husband Bill passed. In 1988 she moved to London, ON and worked with her son Bill in his jewelry store. She also provided homecare and took care of her two grand-daughters. In 1998, June returned to Portage la Prairie where she became involved in Trinity United Church and enjoyed getting reacquainted with former friends and meeting new ones. In August of 2011, June moved back to Ontario to live with her son and daughter-in-law in the London Area. Cremation has taken place. A memorial Funeral Service will be held on Thursday August 8, 2013 at DENNING BROS. FUNERAL HOME 32 Metcalfe St W. Strathroy Ont. N7G1M6 at 1:00 PM with Pastor Howard Katz officiating. Visitation will tsake place one hour before service.
