Obituary of Elgin Charlton

Charlton: William Elgin

Peacefully at Craigwiel Gardens, Ailsa Craig on Monday, December 4th, 2017; Elgin in his 99th year. Beloved son of the late Montgomery and Gertrude Charlton (née Robson). Loving brother of Eleanor Charlton. Predeceased by his sister Dorothy. Elgin was a lifelong resident farming in Lobo Township (now Middlesex-Centre) and lifelong member of St. George’s Anglican Church. Elgin volunteered to serve his country as a soldier in World War II and was trained at Camp Petawawa. Elgin loved music and the alto saxophone, playing with his sister Eleanor (violin) in the “Ilderton Entertainers”. He also enjoyed playing goal for the Ilderton hockey team. He is remembered for his humility, grace and kindness to all.

A Funeral Service will be conducted at St. George’s Anglican Church, 13 Mile Road, Middlesex-Centre, on Friday, December 8th, 2017 at 11 a.m. where fittingly, after Chairing the Cemetery Board for over 50 years, he will be interred in St. George’s Anglican Cemetery, his final earthly resting place.

Grateful thanks are due to Heather Bice and staff at Countryside Manor, Coldstream, as well as the staff of Craigwiel Gardens, Ailsa Craig. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. George’s Anglican Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to DENNING’S OF AILSA CRAIG, www.denning.ca.
